Dear Readers,

ESH is proud to present this 6th revised edition of the ESH-EBMT Handbook on Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.

ESH and EBMT have worked together for many years to make high-level training and tools for continuing education freely available to junior and senior scientists, physicians, nurses and data managers with interest in the field.

Today, the need for education is greater than ever: new transplant centres continue to open throughout Europe and the world; the number of haematopoietic stem cell transplants continues to increase; our understanding of transplant biology is improving and new transplant procedures and techniques are being implemented. For all of these reasons, freely accessible education and educational tools are of increasing importance to transplant specialists worldwide.

ESH is also engaged in EUROCORD-ED, as the partner for educational activities and tools, including the regular conference on the biology and clinical application of cord blood stem cells (http://www.eurocord-ed.org).

We invite you to visit the ESH website (http://www.esh.org) to find information on ESH activities and freely accessible educational tools, including the PowerPoint presentations of the ESH-EBMT Training Courses and other conferences.

We would like to warmly thank the editors and authors of this Handbook. They have once again generously donated their time and expertise to further education in this field. CHUGAI Sanofi-Aventis has been the corporate partner of the ESH-EBMT Handbook since its first edition. This partnership has been provided through educational grants and with exemplary respect for the scientific independence of the editors and authors.

ESH aims to provide you with the educational tools that meet your professional needs. We welcome your comments and suggestions for improvement and we invite you to contact us at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
